Christmas with City Chorus

Christmas with City Chorus
The City Chorus' traditional carol concert – songs for choir and audience, plus a rare performance of Eric Thiman’s narrative cantata ‘The Nativity’.

The City Chorus, with professional soloists and string ensemble, will perform the Missa Brevis in G (K49) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Between the movements of the mass, our guest soloists will sing sections from the Weihnachts-Responsoren (Christmas Responsories) by Mozart's friend and colleague, Johann Michael Haydn (brother of Franz Josef Haydn).

These delightful seasonal pieces are rarely heard in the UK, and their inclusion in the programme continues the City Chorus' commitment to singing unusual and neglected repertoire - the choir's work in this area last season was recognised by a grant from the Music Reprieval Trust. After the concert interval, join the City Chorus in singing traditional carols, and listen to beautiful new arrangements of familiar favourites.

City Chorus is looking for new singers
City Chorus is looking for new singers in all voice parts and we are holding a special Open Evening at 6 pm on Tuesday, 10 January 2012 where potential members can meet the current choir, and sing with us for the evening.

Rehearsals are held on Tuesdays, 6.15 - 8.15 pm at the NatWest building, 1 Princes Street (EC2R 8BP), right next to Bank station (Exit 1).

Although we are a non-auditioning choir, some choral singing experience and music-reading ability would be an advantage, but is not essential, as all works are thoroughly rehearsed over the course of each term. Wherever possible, we make recordings or sound files available, to help with the learning process; and we also offer opportunities for individual vocal tuition with guest singing teachers. At least one piece per concert is performed from memory.

Christmas 2012: Our traditional carol concert- popular seasonal songs for choir and audiences.
