Covent Garden’s Christmas lights are set to rival the displays on nearby Regent Street and Oxford Street, so come on down to the Piazza on Thursday for the big switch-on.
The towering Christmas tree will shimmer with 50,000 red baubles, and the Market Building will be transformed into a festive wonderland with oversized decorations including candy canes and mirrorballs. More than 150,000 pea lights will sparkle above the heads of shoppers, creating a dazzling illumination that starts in the Piazza and fans out along Russell, James, King and Henrietta Streets.
Adding a festive soundtrack to the event, the London Gay Men’s Choir will sing some traditional – and not so traditional – holiday tunes. They will also serenade shoppers every Saturday from 24th November until Christmas.
We’ve also got lots more Christmas moments planned for the coming weeks. Watch out for details of reindeer petting and the Christmas food market, and stay tuned for more on the world’s first advent calendar made entirely from LEGO bricks.
It’s building up to be a great Christmas in Covent Garden!
