London for Christmas

2011 Christmas Lights event is organised by The Howard De Walden Estate in support of Young Minds, the voice for young people's mental health and wellbeing.

Every year Marylebone Village hosts a Christmas Lights event to celebrate the switch on of its Christmas decorations. Organised by The Howard de Walden Estate, this is a fantastic community event packed with crowds coming to watch the switch on. The event is a true village affair with local retailers and residents working together to make the evening a success.

Children from the local schools sing Christmas carols, shops and restaurants have special Christmas promotions and some sell mince pies, hot chocolate, mulled wine, BBQ’s, champagne or a glass of sherry!

For some years Marylebone Village has been widely recognised as one of the most desirable ‘places to be’ in central London and something of a blueprint for ‘village’ life within the capital. It is precisely this distinctive ‘village atmosphere’ that sets this event apart from many other larger central Christmas events and makes for a truly enjoyable evening.

The event starts at 15.30 with activities taking place until 18.30. Most of the activity is focused around the main stage on Marylebone High Street where the switch on takes place at 6pm. This year we will be supporting the charity Young Minds, the voice for young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

• Live performances from Bedford Bandstand Group
• Live Performance from Covers Band
• Christmas Card Competition and Name the Robot Competition announcements
• Switch on of the lights by Celebrity
• Live music performance as finale
