Westminster Abbey has a full programme of services and concerts for Advent and Christmas 2011. Attending a Christmas service at Westminster Abbey is a great festive tradition and every year the Abbey welcomes over 12,000 people from the UK and overseas to one of its Christmas services. The Services of Lessons & Carols on Friday 23 December at 18.00 and Christmas Eve at 16.00 are especially popular and require tickets (which are free).
Other highlights this year include Handel’s most celebrated work, Messiah, which will be performed on Tuesday 29 November at 19.00 in the Nave of Westminster Abbey, steps away from the composer’s final resting place in Poets’ Corner. James O’Donnell, Organist and Master of the Choristers, will conduct the Choir of Westminster Abbey in Handel’s masterpiece with St. James's Baroque and four leading soloists. The annual Christmas Concert, supported by John Lewis, takes place on Tuesday 13 December at 19.00 and features festive choral works sung by the Abbey Choir with seasonal readings and traditional carols for all to sing. Full listings for Christmas services and booking arrangements will be published in the Autumn.
